Who’ll Stop The Rain? (Walking in Your God-Given Authority)
I was listening to the radio the other day, and an old classic from Creedence Clearwater Revival came on, the one that asks, “Who’ll Stop The Rain?” Whether you’ve heard of it or not, we can ALL identify with the lyrics!
“Long as I remember the rain been comin’ down.
Clouds of mystery pourin’ confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages tryin’ to find the sun.
And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain?”
We are living in times where these lyrics have never been more true! It’s raining! And most Christians don’t believe they can do anything about it. It’s raining fear. It’s raining terror. It’s raining depression, discouragement, sickness, and disease. It’s raining family problems, emotional problems, and financial problems. As the song says, “There are a lot of clouds of confusion pouring on the ground.” And we, as Christians, are good men and women trying to find the sun, but it’s time that we become the people who do more than look for good things to happen. It’s time for us to learn to stop the rain!
So I’m writing to tell you today — YOU HAVE THE POWER TO STOP THE RAIN IN
YOUR LIFE! YOU have authority and power to RISE UP, take control, and put an end to these storms of “rain” in your life! That’s right! As a child of God, you have been given dominion!
“Let man have dominion over the earth.” — Genesis 1:26
DOMINION: noun do·min·ion də-ˈmi-nyən : the power to rule…
God gave the original right of dominion on this earth to Adam and Eve. They surrendered this dominion to Satan in the Fall. But, through the victory of Jesus on the Cross, He purchased back dominion & authority with His own precious blood. That’s good news! But the good news gets even better!
Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I give YOU authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and OVER ALL THE POWER OF THE ENEMY, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Wow! — I hope you got that! Jesus won back the right of dominion through His death and resurrection. And then — He gave this authority to you and me! We have authority on this earth!
I’m declaring today, YOU CAN STOP THE RAIN!
So then, you’re probably asking the question, “But Greg, how do I stop the rain?” Well, I’m glad you asked. Let’s look at an example of a man who actually did it!
James 5:16–17: …The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
Effective, fervent prayer from a righteous man avails much! THAT IS THE KEY TO STOPPING THE RAIN!
So why are we as Christians allowing THE RAIN to keep falling?
The enemy gets us falling for the lie that God is in control of everything. The truth is, God is NOT in control of everything. If God were in control of your marriage, you’d be happier. If God were in control of your kids, they would be a little more obedient. 🙂
Through Jesus, we have the dominion on this earth! We get to decide the kind of day, attitude, marriage, and health we’re going to have! We could turn that over into the hand of the enemy if we want… but God has given us the responsibility AND authority to pray and stop the rain!
So, once we get past that lie, what’s the next thing the enemy tries to do? He goes to attack the basis for our ability to pray and stop the rain. He gets us trapped in religion — am I truly righteous? Have I done enough good deeds? Am I holy enough?
Listen, friends — we don’t become righteous through any action on our part! Righteousness is a gift! Romans 5:17 says, “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign — have dominion — in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
We are righteous through the gift of Jesus, NOT through our own actions. Ah, you need more proof of this, right? Here’s what James 5 and verse 17 says about Elijah, the original rain stopper: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.”
You see, Elijah had a nature like ours — a human nature — yet he was able to offer up the type of prayer that literally stopped the rain! If you look back over the life of Elijah, he had ups and downs just like you and me. Yet, none of his human flaws disqualified him from this type of prayer power! And you’re no different — your human flaws don’t disqualify YOU from stopping the rain in your life and in your world!
So, MY QUESTION TO YOU TODAY IS – ARE YOU READY TO RISE UP, TAKE DOMINON, AND STOP THE RAIN?
It’s time for us as believers to step up and onto the scene and stop the rain like Elijah did. It’s time to take our families back, take our communities back, take our dreams back, and take our land back! We can’t put our head in the sand and live in fear any longer. We’ve got to stop running and start commanding the rain to stop! Jesus said in Matthew 18:18, “Whatsoever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatsoever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” In other words, heaven will forbid what WE forbid; and heaven will allow what WE allow.
Are you ready to stop the rain? I sure am! And I’m sure you feel the same way. All that’s needed is for us to take dominion, stop believing the lie of the enemy, and pray according to the righteousness that is ours through Christ and WE WILL AVAIL MUCH IN THE EARTH! Amen?
